That’s what this book is about – assisting you on your journey through life, creating more of what you’d like your days to contain.
Think of it as a simple mirror – helping you to see what’s really going on, the choices you make that create the results you get.
The mirror makes no judgment, it just reflects back to you what it sees from that perspective.

Tasting a Life of Harmony
It is very simple to be happy,
but it is very difficult to be simple.
Rabindranath Tagore
Andy Collett has written a simple little book with a big mission: presenting to you a practical guide for creating a life that harmonizes the enjoyable and the purposeful.
And as it is written in the quote above by Tagore, it can be difficult to be simple, usually because we think the complexity of our limiting thoughts and beliefs requires a complex solution, so we search in vain for that. That whole process produces the difficulty. (I speak from painful personal experience!)
We overlook how simple the best solutions always are.
There’s a playful simplicity to this book that makes it remarkably user-friendly. Andy’s metaphors of taste…the sweet, the sour, the salty and the bitter … take us out of heavy, complex thinking into a simpler world of experience and sensation. Like the alluring smells coming from a cozy kitchen, the reader is invited to taste the freedom that’s really here.
And what’s here is 1) How to choose your work, 2) How to choose your life and 3) How to see the whole exploration from the viewpoint of simple personal taste.
I had already been impressed and enlightened by Andy Collett’s innovative work in the field of customer and client relations. His book Service with a Hug reflects that work and explains the bottom-line value of practicing compassion and understanding in all communication with customers. The process is simple and powerful and often the last thing companies think to do. Most companies see customers as targets of opportunity and a means to an end, and treat those human targets accordingly.
Andy’s work in that field, and now in this more personal field brings the power of love and attention front and center. In Sweet Work we are given a way to look at ourselves with greater compassion and understanding as we chart our journey forward.
Most people (myself included for years if not decades) try to make their career and life choices based on a heavy sense of obligation. How we make our living and live our lives becomes a cold and dreary business. We enter our decision-making from the standpoint of SHOULD. What should I do? How should I proceed? Where should I look? Who should I talk to?
That’s often a product of our cultural conditioning and upbringing. We reach a certain age and “It’s time to get serious!” A parent might shout at me: “The fun’s over smart guy! It’s time to stop thinking about yourself and get into the real world of work and responsibility! Do you think I enjoy any of this work I do? Work is hard. It’s a grind. That’s why they call it work!”
I remember hearing stuff like that and accepting it to be my fate. After all, they must know what they’re talking about…they’re the grown-ups. I guess I should do what they’re saying.
But I never created much coming from SHOULD DO. It wasn’t until I started making choices from a more self-aware WANT TO that I found great work, great fun and great fulfilment.
If I’d had this book Sweet Work way back then, and really jumped into it and did the exercises and filled in the boxes and let it inspire me, I’d have cut decades off my struggle.
Fortunately, it’s here now, simple, useful and inspired, for you, for your clients, for your family and for all of us. Dive in and enjoy!
